Forget about yummy mummies and perfect celeb mums - what your baby really needs is a good enough mother.
You’re a good enough mother if your baby is:
Safe
Fed
Clean
Warm and dry
Rested
and, above all, loved.
There's so much pressure from the media and television to be a perfect mother, and when you are a new mum every tiny decision can feel like a matter of life and death.
Remember: Your baby's crying is not a judgment on you as a mother. You're not a bad mother if you don't stick to the routine to the minute. You're not a bad mother if you work and use childcare. You're not a bad mother if you do things differently to your parents, your in-laws, or your friends.
You're the best mummy your baby will ever have. Relax. It will get easier, the tricky bits will resolve themselves and morph into different sorts of trickiness, and you will get to that mythical First Birthday Party deservedly raising a glass of fizz and saying "Yes! We did it!".
